Jozani Forest, Local Zoo, and Swimming with Turtles

Overview

On a day trip to Zanzibar, observe African rock pythons, red colobus monkeys, and crocodiles in their native environments by visiting the famed Jozani Forest National Park.

Itinerary

The ideal time of day to see dolphins is in the morning, so get started on your adventure then. Start at Matemwe, one of Zanzibar Island’s oldest cities known for its fishing community. Snorkel amid the beautiful coral reef and the many species of fish and other aquatic critters while keeping an eye out for dolphins. It is possible to see playful dolphins if you catch them at the right time.

It is not certain that you will get to swim with the dolphins because you will be visiting them in their natural environment, but your guide will try their best to make them feel at ease so you can take in their enchanting vibes from a distance.

Zanzibar’s Jozani Forest National Park features a high, lush groundwater forest that is worth exploring on every vacation to the island. Zanzibar is the only place in the world where you can see red colobus monkeys, so take advantage of the chance to get close to these unique primates. The park is also home to a variety of other creatures, such as bushbabies, elephant shrews, and blue monkeys. The next stop is the mangrove, where a bridge has been constructed by the conservation authorities so that tourists may see the animals without disturbing it.

Proceed to a nearby eatery for a traditional Swahili table buffet meal. Visit the Zanzibar Butterfly Center, a local community initiative, on the way back to your accommodation. The location may not be very large, but it is a great spot to wind down and take it easy before heading home.
